Valentine’s Day is the most overrated occasion about which, for some reason, everyone appears to be the most stressed. Have you made any plans? Do you have someone special in your life? What are you going to give them?! All of these questions seem to stress us out in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day, whether we’re single, crushin’, or tied down with a s/o. As a result, I’m here to assist you. Whether you’re spending the day alone or with your friends, here are 15 fun Valentine’s Day activities for college students that are either inexpensive or completely free!
1. Share a sweet treat with your friends.
Recreate the very charming scenario in almost every Rom-Com where two individuals share a banana split or a milkshake through two straws! Getting dessert to share is not only less expensive, but it’s also more romantic!
2. Make a meal for your significant other.
Prepare a delicious dinner if your BAE is stuck in class all day or you have some free time. You don’t have to go all out; what matters is the thought.
- Add some extra items like veggies, poultry, or other sauces to some Kraft Mac n’ Cheese or Ramen Noodles for a unique spin.
- Pick up some fresh garlic bread or cheese and crackers at your local grocery shop.
- Buy a large bottle of Yellow Tail or some sparkling fruit juice at the store (both are under $10).
- Place plates, forks, napkins, and perhaps some flowers on the table.
This entire lunch will cost you less than $30 to make, and they will undoubtedly like it.
3. Write Someone A Love Letter
Have you ever had a crush on someone who lives down the hall and you’ve never mustered up the confidence to tell them how you feel? Because everyone is in such a *loving* mood on Valentine’s Day, it’s the ideal time to finally wear your heart on your sleeve and tell them how you truly feel.
4. Visit a movie theater to see Fifty Shades Freed.
Don’t forget that the final chapter of Ana and Christian’s story will be released on February 14th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Bring your partner or all your pals to see this spicy film! You can buy online DVD for watch at home.
5. Go to a Comedy Show With Your Date
Going to a comedy show is a thing, and it’s a fantastic date idea. Think about it: you won’t have to bore your date with cheesy jokes since someone else will do it for you! It’s a win-win situation.
6. Host a Wine Party with Your Female Friends
Why not take advantage of the fact that Valentine’s Day occurs on Wine Wednesday this year and open several bottles?! Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to get a little wine wasted, whether you split a fine bottle of Cabernet with your s/o or pop numerous bottles with the women. Can you think of any better Valentine’s Day events for college students, for example…?
7. Organize a cookie decorating competition
Make your way to the store. Have a cookie decorating contest with simple sugar cookies, pink, red, and white icing, sprinkles, and whatever else you can find! The best thing is that you get to eat all of them afterward.
8. Give massages to each other
If you’ve got a boo this Valentine’s Day, skip the spa and bring the spa experience to each other! It will be even better than paying for a massage if you give each other massages.
9. Enroll in a class together
There are a variety of workshops available, ranging from cooking to painting (with wine) to food tasting. There are so many possibilities available; simply look up what classes are available in your region and enroll! This will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable Valentine’s Day activities!
10. Go on a Shopping Spree By Yourself
Consider yourself #winning if all you have to worry about on Valentine’s Day is yourself. Any money spent on roses, chocolates, cards, or plush teddies can be put back into your pocket and used to buy something for yourself! Don’t be hesitant to splurge on something you’ve been admiring, whether it’s a new pair of shoes or some new fitness gear.
11. Take a Food Tour of the Area
Make your own food trip with your BAE or friends. Make a list of all the restaurants, cafes, and other places where you can get a treat and plan your day! Stop at each one and order something off the menu…oh, and don’t forget to Insta it. You could even go a step further and make a Snapchat #FoodTour geofilter for the group.
12. Attend A Sporting Event
Even if you don’t care for watching sports on TV, going to a game is much more exciting and enjoyable! Get tickets to a hockey or basketball game with your buddies and enjoy a fun day!
13. Take an ice skating lesson
So, while this one is a touch cliche, it still made the list since it is so much fun! Many indoor rinks in your area likely provide free public skate time; just ask. Grab a friend and join us!
14. Have a Picnic Inside
Okay, this is a really sweet concept for you and your boyfriend or girlfriend. Go through the motions of a real picnic, complete with a picnic basket and all the fixings. Unless you replace the blanket and the outdoors with some warm blankets and pillows on your dorm or apartment’s floor!
15. Try your hand at bowling
Bowling, last but not least! Whether you’re going with a hot date or a bunch of friends, it’s a fun and economical activity for everyone!
